Swarathma

Bangalore-based Swarathma fusion-rock band mesmerized hundreds of music lovers Saturday here at the third edition of the Storm Festival, India's one-of-its-kind camp-out music festival which has brought forth over 60 artistes to perform under one roof.

The Storm Festival 2014, which kicked off Jan 31, will conclude Feb 2.

Swarathma not just entertained the audience with their handpicked music, but recharged them for the rest of the evening.

Comprising band members Vasu Dixit (vocals), Pavan Kumar KJ (percussions and backing vocals), Varun Murali (lead guitar), Sanjeev Naik (violin) and Jishu Dasgupta (bass guitar), Swarathma performed a rendition of Hindi and Kannada songs.

The biggest highlight of the performance was that its members followed a healthy interaction with the audience throughout the entire course of jamming, while lead vocalist Dixit performed one of the songs amidst the crowd.

For a song "Topiwale", the band members donned caps like those of the Aam Aadmi Party. Their other popular song was "Tapori".

Besides Swarathma, other bands that performed Saturday included Avial, Papon and the East India Company, Raagalacious, Solder and Tetseo Sisters.

The audience were also entertained by international DJs Eddie Halliwell, Filterheadz, while Indian artistes such as Nikhil Chinapa and Rohit Barker also spinned the disc.

While the festival kicked off Friday, the bands started performing Saturday.

Indian music stalwarts like Shankar Mahadevan and Leslie Lewis also performed Saturday to over 2,500 members of the audience who came from Bangalore as well as the rest of the country.

"We're honoured to have Shankar Mahadevan onboard to share his time and wisdom with us to make this festival larger and more vivacious in its entirety. The vision of Storm 2014 is bringing the best of mainstream entertainment to beautiful natural environs for an unforgettable camping experience," festival director Lavin Uthappa told IANS.

On Sunday, bands like Anthony Daasan and Yen Party and Indiva and independent artists Susheela Raman and Raghu Dixit Project will perform.

Music lovers will also get to experience the collaboration of Shankar Mahadevan and Shankar Tucker for the first time.
