After Jodhpur, Sufi music fest heads to Nagaur

After some spectacular performances and soulful musical experience here, the sixth edition of World Sufi Spirit Festival (WSSF) now heads to Nagaur.

The festival that kickstarted here Friday at the Mehrangarh Fort culminates Wednesday at the Ahichhatragarh Fort in Nagaur.

"The Sufi music festival was started in Nagaur, but just for making it more reachable and for better exposure, it was brought to Mehrangarh. I can say that it has picked up very well here," Karni Jasol, director of Mehrangarh Fort, told IANS.

Talking about the responses, he said: "We are very happy about the response garnered by the festival this year. The footfalls were more then double from the previous year. Next edition would be equally exciting and more. It would have combination of international, Indian and local flavours. This year, nearly 100 regional musicians took part."

For artists from different backgrounds and genres to music lovers from all over the world, the Mehrangarh Fort was a perfect host.

It was the festival's second edition at the fort and the turnout was great. Hosted by the royal family of Jodhpur, the festival had musical traditions from various parts of the world.

Performers from Egypt, Turkey, France, Mongolia and Afghanistan showcased their talent and were applauded for their music. From India, musicians from Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan performed.

Almost all of these artists and some more will be performing at Nagaur, where the music journey is heads now.
