The Classic Cut fest to pay tribute to Indian films, icons

Mumbai, Feb 7 (IANS) Watch out for classics such as "Do Bigha Zameen" and "Awara", a workshop on Dadasaheb Phalke's cinema and an archival exhibit of rare film posters at The Classic Cut -- a two-day fest here, starting Saturday.

The event is being organised by Zee Classic in partnership with Enlighten Society, a body dedicated to facilitating cultural events and bringing people with shared passions together.

To be held at Russian Centre, Peddar Road here, it is the channel's first step towards taking evergreen classics beyond TV sets and giving today's generation a holistic experience of the evolution of Indian cinema, which has clocked 100 years.

"Bringing classic cinema and the masterminds that sculpted it closer to the current generation is a proposition that has always been close to our heart," Mohan Gopinath, senior vice president, business head, Hindi Movie Cluster, ZEE, said in a statement.

Apart from the film screenings, writer Kamal Swaroop will host a workshop on Dadasaheb Phalke's canvas of work.

"We promise a rich experience for every cinema lover," added Gopinath.

There will also be an exhibit of film posters of classics such as "Mother India", "Awara" and "Sholay". The exhibit will be inaugurated by filmmaker Ketan Mehta, while the movie "Do Bigha Zameen" will be presented by its maker Bimal Roy's son, Joy Roy.
