Experience 'Paan Singh Tomar' through coffee table book

A coffee table book capturing the journey of how the real-life story of athlete-turned-dacoit Paan Singh Tomar turned into a cinematic experience will be launched in the market soon.

The makers of the film, UTV Motion Pictures, are keen to immortalise the story of the making of 'Paan Singh Tomar' in the form of a coffee table book.

Journalist-author Priyanka Jain has been roped in to write the book. She has earlier co-written a book on Vidhu Vinod Chopra along with scriptwriter of "3 Idiots" Abhijat Joshi.

The book will give readers a glimpse of the real and reel life of Paan Singh Tomar with some never seen before pictures depicting his life.

"Thousands of stories live and die every day in India, unnoticed. And these stories are complex, fascinating, moving, heart-wrenching and engaging. I feel they should be brought to light in whatever form possible," Irrfan, who played the role of Paan Singh Tomar in the film, said in a statement.

"Book on Paan Singh Tomar is not a substitute for the film, it is another experience including all the other details which the film could not include. I feel the book will add to the experience of the film. It is a face of India which needs a look," he added.

Director Tigmanshu Dhulia is backing the project too.

"The story of Paan Singh Tomar was so captivating that both UTV and I believed that it needed to be told so much so that as a rare case UTV even funded the research for this film," said Dhulia.

"The story of the making of the film Paan Singh Tomar, I believe, is equally compelling. Paan Singh Tomar's struggle is not very different from what our real heroes face even today. Hence the book and the film will be contemporary even today," he added.

The producers of the film are also very excited about introducing the readers to never seen and never-heard-before stories of Tomar.

"As an industry we have not done enough so far to document our incredibly rich cinematic heritage, and this is a small step in that direction. To see the film alive in the form of a book is a way to share the experience of Paan Singh Tomar with all those who were touched by the movie," said Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director - studios, Disney UTV.
