Pakistan ban won't affect 'Agent Vinod' revenues: Saif

Actor-producer Saif Ali Khan isn't perturbed over Pakistan banning "Agent Vinod", saying that very little revenue would be lost by the restriction imposed on his home production, which is releasing Friday.

"We have lost some revenue, just around Rs.1 crore. They are always banning our movies. 'Kurbaan' was also banned," Saif told IANS adding that "We also shot in Pakistan without their permission."

" 'Agent Vinod' is for Indians but it is not against Pakistanis," said Saif and added with a smile: "But I understand if they get upset because we are beating them up quite often in the film."

Directed by Sriram Raghavan, "Agent Vinod" has Saif in the title role and Kareena Kapoor as the female lead.

Talking about characterization of Pakistanis in "Agent Vinod", he said: "We have shown the Pakistani Army involved with the Taliban and Afghanistan. We have shown them assassinating their own ISI chief. We have shown them encouraging terrorist activities in India and financing the LET. If you feel this is unreasonable or not true, then it is fair enough."

"I think it is all quite true. May be they didn't like that but they do know," he added.

Once a prolific moviemaking country, Pakistan had 1,300 cinema halls in the 1970s with an average annual production of around 300 movies. But by 2005, the country had only 270 cinema halls and made about 18 movies a year. The rest of the movie halls have been converted into gas stations, shopping malls or car showrooms.

In 2010, just eight Pakistani movies were produced.

Movie buffs in Pakistan had a hearty appetite for Bollywood movies, but they had to watch pirated copies of Hindi films as the release of Indian films had been banned in Pakistan.

In 2008, the Pakistan government lifted the ban on Indian films and that has given a much-needed boost to the cinema business.

Really Saif? *shakes head* This was such an ignorant and idiotic interview. For someone with as much of a "public" standing as he has, I expected a bit more professionalism.

Bravo to the many many MANNYYY people who see right through this story!! I love how everybody is reacting to this! Everybody is thinking with their minds and thinking the matter through! xsaher786x said, "Thaali ek haath se nahi bajti" I loved that comment because it's very true! The actors and actresses of both countries should totally keep out of the political business! We all know the government is to blame for the media crap! I belong to one of the countries which are being mentioned here, and it is completely idiotic of Saif to make such rude and degrading comments! The most stupidest was "We shot in pakistan without permission"... Like seriously, you would say that to the public like that! Fine you did shoot... well then you need to learn what should be said to the billions of people watching and what you should keep to yourself. He clearly just portrayed how idiotic he is, because he said whatever came to his mind. He even said that in the movies, they're beating Pakistan... well people have eyes. We know what we're seeing. You did'nt have to go ahead and make such comments on an interview. I am with everybody here who is seeing this story through the RIGHT lens!! Bravo to all of you... I'm very proud! :)2012-03-22 18:30:01

I am offended more on Saif's reaction and response more then what the actual plot is in the movie. How could someone be as obnoxious and insincere? And as for the Indians on this page who keep saying we Pakistanis deserving this and whatnot, all I'm going to say is 'Thaali aik haath se nahi bhajti' Both our govts are to blame for the past, and both of the countrys youth is blamed for our present and what will come out in the future. Also if the situation was reversed and Pakistanis had made a movie about Indians in a degrading manner I'd be offended. Why? Because they are my fellow brothers and sisters across the border. And no one deserves to be illtreated or degraded..2012-03-22 17:02:41

that was quite offensive considering the fact that bollywood movies and actors are liked and praised by alot of pakistani's whether in pak or abroad.A celebrity should always refrain from getting involved in stupid political tensions between the countries and should care about the sentiments of ppl belonging to other countries and religion coz if u r loved unconditionally then it should be reciprocated.leave this shit job of spreading hatred for politicians only.well!i never liked saif's acting skills.the dumbest khan so no plan of watching this shit.EAST OR WEST,APNA BARUN SOBTI IS THE BEST.

Well quite honestly, if you are gonna continuously degrade and humiliate countries, they are bound to get offended by it. I totally see why Pakistan would ban this movie, as well as Kurbaan. I'm not saying the movies were bad, they were quite amazing actually, but when you constantly show the world that this particular religion and country is a certain way, they will most definitely get offended by it. So banning such movies from the country is acceptable and quite right to do in such a case. They wouldn't like it if other people made movies about them like this, now would they? I know for sure, the movie would be banned in India!2012-03-22 16:13:35
