Raveena Tandon, who started her career with 'Patthar Ke Phool', says the current lot of actresses are under a lot of pressure to look slim and in the process, are compromising on their health as a result unable to withstand the rigors of the job.
'After coming to this industry, we actresses face so much pressure to look thin all the time. We are working at erratic hours...we also go through such strict diet plans, it is important to have a strong base,' she said.
'These days we get to hear news of actresses fainting due to dieting or working non-stop for 24 hours or for 36 hours. But touchwood, I have never fainted in my life till now,' the 37-year-old actress added at an event to announce her as the brand ambassador of Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil.
Raveena feels actresses of her generation were a lot healthier as compared to the current crop.
'I did 'Patthar Ke Phool' when I was 16 and from that day onwards I have been shooting. That time people were not conscious about their looks to such an extent. We were very healthy back then. Me, Kajol, Manisha (Koirala) -- when we had come, we were strong, we looked like we belonged to healthy families,' said the actress last seen in 'Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap'.
Raveena had taken a sabbatical after her marriage to Anil Thadani in 2004 and made a comeback last year with 'Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap'. Now she has signed a couple of projects and is currently shooting for 'Gin Liya Aasmaan'.
She will also be seen in 'E-dil Sambhal Zara' and 'Shovna Seven Nights'.

She is absolutely right! There is a rat race now to just have a so called "hot body" which today translates to being thin! Wasn't Raveena hot in tip tip barsa paani? Madhuri in Dhak Dhak karne laga? Sridevi in kaate nahin kat te?
And besides all this... Health comes first... I understand some actresses are hereditary and naturally slim and thin...that's different... but others who want to become a flat iron is just bad for health!
Totally agree! For instance look at Shilpa Shetty in Om shanti Om song, she looks VERY slim.. Health comes first, then profession
thank for the awesome articles
Size Zero ..or Size 1 its not attractive! Nowadays Actresses seem to think a thinner frame will be able to hide their inability to act.The 50s-90s did very well with ACTresses who can actually act and are "healthy". I really don't understand this trend we have going now!
she is rite, actress used to be pretty in the 90s as they had natural look and they also looked healthy.
They know how to act where now actress only think about how to become size zero.
I agree with her. Being voluptuous n curvy is much better for Indian women rather than skinny calorie-counting freaks. About time actresses quit thinking that audiences want size zero twigs as icons. GROSS!
Thin is not in..healthy is in..workout to have a good figure, not starve yourself..size zero is overrated..
Raveena isbgorgeous and whatevavshe is sayijg is right. Plus if shebneeds to diet right now is becauseee she gained too much wait after not workingg she prob justs wansltsbto get back tk the beautiful stage she used to beee i doubt she will diet to the point of kareena for examplee
Raveena's gorgeous!! And she's right about the newer actresses being too thin and weak compared to Raveena, Karishma, Madhuri, Kajol. All were gorgeous, but not stick thin. They looked healthy.
whats the need to diet now Raveena..don't tell us you don't
