Acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor hasn't directed a Hindi film since 'Bandit Queen' in 1994, and he blames the increased focus on marketing cinema as a product for it.

'Why don't I make another film? Because creativity is a deeply intimate act which nowadays arrogance of finance thinks they know everything about. More money is now going into marketing than ever. Films are treated as product not creative work,' Kapoor posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

'It's all about money. How can you take a cinema seriously where the most important selling point is which heroine is doing an item number? Cinema now is merely a product,' he added.

Kapur is known for films like 'Masoom' and 'Mr. India' and then he moved to Hollywood and directed movies like 'Elizabeth', 'The Four Feathers' and 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age'.

For a long time, he has been working on a film called 'Paani', which will focus on the issue of water wars.

He is right. I haven't watch a hindi movie in a long time and the reason is all I get to hear is item songs in hindi movies. The writers have disappeared from bollywood completely. It is sad that we have a pathetic indian audience which encourages such crap.

    He is so right.

I was unfortunate enough to see some of the blockbusters this year and I was stunned by the low production values and the sheer lameness. I don't care about who the main leads are or which songs someone is dancing to. I want a good story, the end.

It's such a simple demand but unfortunately Bollywood has forgotten the art of storytelling.

Shekhar Kapoor hasn''t directed a Hindi film since ''Bandit Queen'' in 1994 [17yrs ago], so if shekhar has not got his mojo back after 17yrs then he probably won't get it back again!
