New Delhi, Nov 18 Abhishek Bachchan, who became father of a girl with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has thanked friends and family for their good wishes and said he was eagerly waiting for the mother and daughter to come home. He also thanked the media for respecting their privacy.
Aishwarya gave birth to her first child Wednesday morning at Mumbai's Seven Hills Hospital.
'It's a momentous occasion for the family and we are overwhelmed with all the love we have received. From all our fans, the media and the industry. Both Aishwarya and the baby are doing great and we can't wait to have them home,' Abhishek said in a statement.
'I would specially like to thank the media for being so supportive, kind and respectful at such an important juncture in our lives,' he said.
'It means the world to us. This is a very overwhelming and exciting phase we enter into and hope to have your continued love and support,' he added.
Meanwhile, the new father is seeking some parenting tips from his parents Amitabh and Jaya.
'How do women/mothers do it? I'm walking around like a zombie and the Mrs. is like a super trooper with a bit of bionic woman thrown in,' the 35-year-old posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.
'Just as I step into fatherhood and parenthood, I've never seen myself rely and depend on my parents more. Guess that happens with every new (sic),' he further posted.
The actor has nicknamed the little girl 'Beti B' and says he spends his whole day noticing the little actions of the child.
'And till we find a name for the little lady a dear friend Shahana Goswami gave me a great one. We have Sr B and Jr B already so... Beti B!...Much like my father SrBachchan I too spent the day observing every little thing about the little one,' he posted.
While Abhishek is enjoying his fatherhood, megastar Amitabh Bachchan is in seventh heaven after becoming a grandfather the third time over and he is looking forward to start the process of bringing up the child.
'...Soon we shall be home and then shall start the process of bringing up. Of teaching and bearing and learning. Of etiquette and manners, of religious indoctrination, of schooling and further monitoring...,' Amitabh wrote on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.
'A day spent with the new born, observing each movement, breath and presence .. recording it for posterity and for us in our old age,' he posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

awww!! that's great he finally given a nickname for the baby so cute!! can't wait to see baby pictures:dI really want to see the baby! can't wait to know her name:d
Okay guys we all have put the pics of a newborn baby in the family on FB and Twitter, But we all don't go asking the media to stay away or give them privacy etc (not that media is behind us)... I am all up for sharing the pics of the newborn baby, which according to me is the greatest joy in this world, also is a blessing anytime, but only privately within the close circle..Anyways I don't care what these people do but its annoying to see IF filled with these kind of news...
Congratulations to the entire Bachchan family a specially Abhi and Ash. hope to see baby's picture soon or atleast tell us color of her eyes...
@ILoveDrama, No offense to you, Bacchan family aint trying the gud news to shove into other peoples throats. Its media who is making it big. They are just expressing their happiness through social media like every normal person do. I did the same thing when my sister had her first baby, I updated baby's daily progress and action he did but the differnce is Im not famous to get notice. I agree media should give them a break.
When Abhishek is saying that its a private affair and thanking the media for respecting it, he means that he's thankful that the TV channels aren't crowding the entrance of the hospital, trying to click pictures of family members coming in and out, thrusting mikes at them for comments or trying to get a hold of hospital staff - docs, nurses or even wardboys to know unnecessary and insensitive details like if Ash screamed while she underwent labor pains (trust me, they'd want to know it!) He's respecting them for keeping their distance. And, in return, he is sharing the news of his newborn and his family along with fans who want to know, and appriciate him for it. He isn't asking any media - be it TV, newspapers or even IF to report what he is saying on twitter. I really hope people who do not want to read the news would ignore it completely than make baseless comments about the bachchans or the media. Everyone has the right to care or not care about the bachchans, twitter and media. Lets excercise it! But please, lets not blame the Bachchans for wanting to share their good news with people who care, and lets not blame the media for reporting each and everything Abhishek tweets, for you people are reading it and caring enough to comment here.
@sweet coco - I dont know what international press you are talking about. I live in Los Angeles and there are NO new about Ash's baby circulating here. Most of them dont even know that Ash was pregnant.
Bachchan family does contradict themselves when they say they don't want media's attention and yet they post on twitter every few hours.
@keva...agree with u... y doesnt other popular celebs hav this kind of attention becos they dnt update on twitter as much as this family does... no offence 2 ne, bt they keep sayin its a private affair yt broadcasting it on social networking sites?? they r contradicting themselves... i reali hpe they cut down on it otherwise these stories wil continue...
@sweet coco...its jus india media or 2 b precise on IF the news is evrywer...this is nt an international event...none of the media hav reported it internationally so i wudnt go as far as sayin tht international media r after thm... n no1 here is sayin they arent interested, congratulatory msgs hav been posted, its jus tht they complain tht media doesnt leave thm yt they r broadcasting evry move on social networking sites which is bound 2 attract media attention...so u c they r contradicting their statements... they hav sed time n time agen tht its a private event which it is so y nt keep it private n nt go into 2 much detail...yes normal ppl do update their twitter status abt it bt the case here isnt tht the bachchans shudnt its jus tht they hav been going on abt it n thn start complaining wen media rewrites their statements with a bit of masala...my point is if u dnt wnt thm 2 right abt it, dnt provide the basics. its as simple as tht...
Congratz to them and can't wait to see the baby pics and Aishu!
To everyone: if you don't wanna hear about it, then ignore it na. There are ppl in this world and in this forum that do. BTW: How many of you post pics and comments on FB and twitter when a new addition enters your family: a niece, baby cousin, bro/sis...so yeah! Nothing wrong with Big B and Abhi expressing their excitement.
And the Indian media isn't the only one going gaga over the baby--so is the international press. I don't think the Bachchans don't go to them and tell them "give us attention"!
The family says they do not want any media coverage and then they update their twitter status. If they stop updating their twitter status the media will have nothing to say. Simple as that. Attention seekers nothing else. Media keeps getting blamed for no reason at all.
Sooo cool. Congratsss
