Kochi, Oct 13 (IANS) A film festival with a difference -- only entertaining short films and documentaries with social relevance, the second edition of SCRIPT (Social and Corporate Responsibility International Promotional Theatre) 2012 -- has invited entries from film makers.

The festival, an initiative of Rotary International District 3201 covering parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu and is organised by the Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis, will be held here Jan 20-21, 2012.

Short films submitted for SCRIPT 2012 could be made by governmental/non-governmental agencies, voluntary organisations, media schools, students, social activists, individual international and Indian film makers and production houses. The last date for entry is Dec 1.

This time the organisers are to use the proceeds from this festival to adopt Kothad village, which has 1,400 families, near here.

'The aim is to develop Kothad into a drug and alcohol free, disciplined and socially responsible village, responsible to each other and to the environment,' said one of the organisers of this event.

A day-care home for the aged and education for 50 students of the village have already been launched on a pilot project basis.

To foster inclusivity and reach, the SCRIPT festival will be free, both for the filmmakers entering their films and audiences viewing these.

The first edition of SCRIPT last year saw some outstanding films being screened and this time too the organisers feel that it will not be any different.

This year, the competition is open in five categories -- international, film makers, students, documentaries and mini/ad films with a social message (two minutes' duration). All categories have a first prize of Rs.25,000 and a second prize of Rs.15,000 with the Golden Halo awards.
