Mumbai, Nov 30 (IANS) A Mumbai court Friday extended the custody of Faisal Khan, brother of Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan, to their father Tahir Hussain till Dec 15.

The Bandra 9th Metropolitan Magistrate Pankaj Shah, while extending the custody, also waived the condition requiring Faisal to report to a local police station every alternate day.

Shah ordered Faisal to undergo a check-up at the state-run J.J. Hospital in south Mumbai next Friday and submit the doctor's report at the next hearing on Dec 15. On Oct 31, the court awarded the custody of Faisal to his father for one month.

On Friday afternoon, lawyer S.A. Vasid submitted reports of two check-ups that Faisal had undergone at the hospital, as ordered by the court last month.

At the last hearing on Oct 31, the magistrate had ruled that since Faisal appeared to be mentally disturbed as per a medical report submitted by the hospital, he would be required to undergo further check-ups and also mark his presence at the police station every alternate day. If his behaviour was found abnormal during the one-month period, the police would take him into custody.

Faisal, 41, suffered from periodic lapses into schizo-affective psychosis, as per the report submitted by the Department of Psychiatry of J.J. Hospital. He was produced before the court following a missing person complaint lodged by his mother Zeenat, sister Nikhat and brother Aamir with the Khar police station on Oct 15.

Later, they moved the court contending that since Faisal was mentally unstable, he needed to be admitted to hospital for treatment.

Faisal, however, contended that he did not suffer from any mental problems. He pleaded that he wanted to live alone and start life afresh to make himself financially independent. He pointed out that he had also rented a flat in Chembur, a north-eastern suburb.

He had also said that he was held captive at Aamir's Bandra residence between February 2005 to January 2006 and forced to consume medicines at a Bandra clinic.

Faisal had told the court that there was no property dispute in the family and if he was required to live with a relative, expressed preference for his father and not with his mother, sister or brother Aamir.

Faisal had acted in a Yash Chopra movie 'Mela' nearly a decade ago. He was reported to be missing since Sep 29 and was later found at the hill station of Lonavala, around 150 km from here.
