It is not unknown that Bollywood actor
Aamir Khan is one of the most recognisable faces amongst the movie-goers in China and enjoys a huge fan base in the country as well. Considering that, his earlier offerings, Dangal (2016) and Secret Superstar (2017), managed to rake in moolah at the Chinese box-office. However, his last film
Thugs of Hindostan, also starring
Katrina Kaif,
Fatima Sana Shaikh and
Amitabh Bachchan, failed to create an impact despite the holiday season and Aamir's massive promotional campaign.
The film not only gave Aamir a reality check but it was labelled as a '
knock-off version of Pirates Of The Caribbean' by the Chinese press.
Thugs of Hindostan, unexpectedly, saw a poor opening at the box-office and failed to impress the audience, both critically and commercially. Keeping that in mind, one thing is certain that his Chinese fans are only keen on seeing films that resonate with him and that is why, Dangal and Secret Superstar worked but TOH and Dhoom 3 could not excite the audience.
Meanwhile, Aamir has taken full responsibility for the film's dismal performance and said, "We tried our level best and didn't leave any stone unturned [in making an entertaining film], but somewhere we went wrong. There are some who liked the film, but they are in minority. Majority of the audience didn't like it. I take full responsibility for its failure."
He concluded by saying that he doesn't like to discuss his films in public because "I treat them as my babies. Even if they fail, they are mine."
