Udta Punjab: Movie Review - Alia Bhatt steals the show!

The first scene of the film will make you realize that 'this is the movie, Bro!' (This the after effects of watching Udta Punjab)

Baseline of the story: Udta Punjab is a story which revolves around the lives of four different characters and connected by one thing - DRUGS!

Story: Abhishek Chaubhey and Sudip Sharma explained the issue of 'substance abuse' prevailing in Punjab in a precise manner! Alia Bhatt, a Bihari migrant who works in the fields on border of Punjab. And the 'Drug-story' starts rolling! Tommy Singh aka GABRU (Shahid Kapoor) is a Punjabi pop-star, just like we have Yo Yo Honey Singh and Baadshah, whose each song has explicit content which attracts the youth the most. The third character in the film is Sartaj (Diljit Dosanjh), an Assistant Police Inspector who you would like to be friends with. He let illegal drugs get in Punjab via checkpoints and of course he gets a good amount of money for doing that! Last but not the least, we are introduced to Preet Sahani (Kareena Kapoor Khan), a doctor who runs a clinic for victims of 'drug abuse' and complete opposite from the character Geet which she played in 'Jab We Met'.

Each character goes through a traumatic experience and the reason behind that is 'DRUGS'!

About the actors:

Shahid Kapoor: The best performance of his till now. You can surely make out that it took a lot of effort for the transformation of Shahid Kapoor into Rockstar Tommy Singh and he brilliantly did his job! Repeated use of B***** in the film adds fun to the character!

Alia Bhatt: Well, she steals the show! The Bihari accent and the perfect expressions at perfect times was classic! We would say that her acting skills are getting better and better with every movie.

Kareena Kapoor Khan: She adds the charm to the film, just like Diljit Dosanjh. The chemistry between Preet and Sartaj is worth watching. That's cute!

Diljit Dosanjh: Ahh! This would be the best debut for Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh. He surely leaves a great impact through the film. The innocent smile on his face, while he speaks with Preet is worth mentioning. The tough side of API Sartaj is also pretty good and convincing.

Satish Kaushik: He plays the role of Tommy Singh's uncle who also looks after the Tommy's GABRU crew. He is a good addition to the movie and a comic relief in the movie which deals with such a serious issue.

Nowhere in the film would you feel that the use of drugs is being promoted.

Now, everything written above comes under the  'What we liked' section; now let's talk about what we didn't.

In the second half somewhere it feels the movie is stretched unnecessarily and losing its track. But every time you feel like this, the next scene grabs your attention back. The story tells HOW everything is happening and not WHY everything is happening. In the end you MIGHT feel that there can be a better ending to the movie than this!

Overall: With all the hype it created in the media for its "expression of creative freedom" is worth a watch for Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh acting and Chaubey's direction. The issue of 'Substance abuse' is just addition to that!
