Shaandaar - Movie Review

Are the trailers and music videos of Shaandaar tempting you to go and watch the film? Then read on and decide if you still want to.

The film starts with an animated sequence with Naseerudin Shah narrating how Alia became a part of the Arora family. Bipin Arora (Pankaj Kapoor) brings Alia home against his mother and wife's wish. No one ever understood Bipin's love for Alia. With time he learnt that she is an insomniac and in attempts of putting her to sleep he kept tempting her with dreams she might see in her sleep. As the time passed, he started thinking that only her prince charming can make her fall asleep. Finally they meet another insomniac Jagginder Joginder (Shahid Kapoor) aka JJ, the wedding planner of Bipin's elder daughter Eesha. Obviously they JJ and Alia (Alia Bhatt) meet, become friends, fall in love and her dad doesn't like the guy.

The first half of the story is all about the two insomniacs doing crazy things at night as they cannot sleep and how grand the wedding is going to be and how rich the families are and how Eesha's wedding is just a business deal. Love story between JJ and Alia starts blooming in the second. On the other side the bride and groom starts realizing how this is not a good match but as this is a deal they keep mum.

Talking about the actors, Alia and Shahid's chemistry is worth watching. Alia's cuteness and Shahid charm is like a perfect combination. Pankaj's performance was great too. Other characters were just fillers and failed to have an impact.

Time to talk about the bloopers! Remember seeing the trailer where Alia says tum kapde pehen ke nahate ho (Do you have your clothes on while having bath?), in the long shot of the same scene she is actually shown wearing clothes that too of different colors from different angles. Can someone actually stay without sleeping for 25 years and have no health problems at all? Never knew insomnia can be cured by finding true love.

Songs are great to hear but just didn't fit the script. Vikas Bahl tried his best to create the magic of a fairy tale and a big fat destination Indian wedding but failed. Shahid and Alia created some cute moments but not enough to keep you entertained throughout the film. All-in-all, the movie has great actors, awesome performance but no story line.
