Movie Review- Bajate Raho

Bajate Raho stars Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Tusshar Kapoor, Dolly Alluwalia and a new bee Vishakha Singh . While the makers of the film have developed a new genre to put this film into called revenge comedy, I personally felt this was plain simple revenge.

Tusshar Kapoor plays Sukhi who has lost his father and owns a cable business. Dolly Alluwalia has sadly been stuck in the role of a Punjabi mummyji right from Vicky Donor. As much as we loved her in Vicky Donor, she has nothing great to offer in this one. Vinay Pathak ( Mintoo Hasan) and Ranvir Shorey ( Baloo)play close friends of Tusshar and with the help of our mummyji ( Dolly Alluwalia) con the rich and powerful Mr. Sabarwal, Ravi Kissan. Honestly, many scenes have no connection to each other and they just leave you blank as to why such a thing is actually happening. Vinay and Ranvir have been a tremendous comic-duo in the past but unfortunately they fail to do justice to comedy this time.

I honestly did not have much expectation from the film when I went inside and was waiting for the plot to build up. My wait did not end but the movie did. At times, there is forced comedy in the film which does not work. While Tusshar, Vinay, Ranvir and mummyji are planning to con Mr. Sabarwal, Tusshar falls in love with Vishakha ( Manpreet) in the subplot. Frankly, the love story does not add much to the film. The only sweet memory I have of the film is when Kamlesh Gill appeared on the screen for a brief moment as nani. She's bang on even at that age.

Director, Shashant Shah who has given Dasvidaniya and Chalo Dilli has not been up to the mark in Bajate Raho. The film revolves around Mr. Sabarwal's daughter's wedding and how the foursome will rob him and humiliate him in front of everyone. Isn't this something we've seen many times before?

The only moment where I smiled briefly was when the song Tu Mera Hero has been converted into a bhajan and Vinay Pathak is singing it at the Mata Ki Chowki. The lyrics have been tweaked well enough to make you laugh. But the song, Naagin does not work for me at all. I am sorry to all the ones who are grooving to this one.

Thankfully, the length of the film is not long and it ends on a reasonable enough duration. Gone are the days when comedy was effortless and humour was subtle. I miss those flicks.

If you are expecting a laugh riot from this one, then you would be disappointed. It might make you smile here and there but it could not make me laugh.
