Kerala director to spend IFFI prize money on Oscar promotion

Panaji, Dec 3 (IANS) Salim Ahmed, director of Malayalam film 'Adaminte Makan Abu' which won the Silver Peacock prize at the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), will spend his award money on gearing up for the Academy Award campaign.

'I will spend this money for Oscar promotion,' the Special Jury award winner told the audience in Panaji, after picking up the prize, which comes with a Rs.15 lakh cash award and a citation.

While announcing the award to 'Adaminte Makan Abu', India's only entry to the competition section which comprised of 14 films from 14 countries, jury chairman and Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Adoor Gopalakrishnan said the film had a 'purity of vision encompassing religion, nature and humanity'.

The 11-day international film festival concluded Saturday.
