Shillong, Oct 5 (IANS) Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC), the winner of reality show 'India's Got Talent Khoj 2', received a tumultuous reception Tuesday here on their return from Mumbai.

Despite intermittent rains, a large number of people drove down to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati to welcome home the internationally acclaimed choral group.

People chanted 'Ka jingjop! ka jingjop! (We won! We Won!)' as soon the group emerged out of the aerodrome with the trophy.

The choral group won the hearts of millions with their prowess of blending Bollywood music, Khasi folk songs and English songs in a choir format.

SCC won the title after defeating Teji Toko, a drummer from Arunachal Pradesh who came second and Bir Khalsa, a Sikh martial arts group from Punjab, that came third - at the finale telecast on Colors channel Sunday. The group received Rs.50 lakhs as prize money and a Kawasaki 250cc Ninja bike.

'Our victory is your victory. Thank you for all your support,' Neil Nongkynrih, the mentor and pianist of SCC said.

Former Meghalaya home minister and musician R.G. Lyngdoh said: 'Cream will always the rise to the top. Shillong Chamber Choir showed their versatility, they endeared themselves to the voters and won. Now north east has to build further on them and not allow them just to fade away.'

Congratulating SCC on their success, Meghalaya Governor R.S. Mooshahary has decided to host a dinner Oct 7 for the choral group at Raj Bhavan.

Earlier, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said: 'It is a big achievement for Meghalaya. We have created history and this achievement has shown to the world our potential.'

Sangma said the youth from Meghalaya has enormous talent and 'we just need opportunities or platforms to reveal such talent'.

The Shillong Chamber Choir had also won India's first gold at the World Choir Olympics held in July at Shaoxing in China.
