Student of the Year: A perfect KJo romance!

Student of the Year: A perfect KJo romance! Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Rishi Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Ram Kapoor, Boman Irani/ Director: Karan Johar/ Producer: Karan Johar & Shah Rukh Khan/ Genre: Romantic comedy You’re going to enjoy your popcorn like you did in all Karan Johar romantic sagas, you will get nostalgic about Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, you will reminisce your teenage days of High School Musical, characters of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and K3G will keep coming in your mind, and St. Teresa’s High School (they stylishly call it St. T’s) will kind of take your heart away only if you’re of the imaginative type and not a practical soul. As soon as the film begins it drives out all your preconceived notions as the fourth wall is broken and four characters narrate the story to us. Two boys falling for the same girl, that too the most popular girl on campus isn’t a new story theme. Then there’s a competition for the Student of the Year that is an obvious way to create an antagonism between the lover boys! Then there are over the top situations of games and contests to turn the scenes more dramatic. The only time when certain emotions are conveyed silently (or in the backdrop of a melancholic tune) you’re sure you’re watching something cinematic, that’s KJo’s all about. Watch how Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan), the spoilt brat son of a businessman tycoon, and middle class small town boy Abhimanyu Singh (Sidharth Malhotra) become best buddies till Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt) makes their world crumble. Ayananka Bose’s cinematography blended fantastically with the sets. Disco Deewane will make you groove, and Ishq Wala Love will confirm you’re watching a KJo reel. Go, watch it this weekend and rejuvenate your high school days (even if you never had such a dramatic one).
