Sidharth 'Sid' Mallya was born to Indian businessman Vijay Mallya, from his first marriage, in the U.S.A. He received his education in London and Dubai. He began to attend Wellington College, Berkshire, a boarding school in Berkshire, England, when he was fifteen. Mallya received his Bachelor's degree in business from Queen Mary, University of London, in 2008.
Upon completing his degree, Mallya worked at Diageo in London for a year in their Guinness beer brand.
Sidhartha Mallya later joined United Spirits Ltd.In 2005, Mallya was appointed as director on the board of the holding company United Breweries (Holdings).
