Moushmi Chatterji is an Indian actress. She is from West Bengal. She is daughter-in-law of the famous singer late Hemant Kumar.
She
was introduced to movies in 1967, with the Bengali movie "Balika
Badhu". She started to act in movies after her marriage, which was
quite unique for females at that time.Moushumi Chatterjee made her film
debut in 1972 with the hit film "Anuraag" and immediately secured her
place in Bollywood.
She was on the top of her career in the
70's and early 80's, when she used to star opposite heroes as Amitabh
Bachchan, Jitendra, Dharmendra etc.In her peak years, she starred
opposite leading stars like Vinod Khanna in "Kachche Dhaage" and
Amitabh in "Roti,Kapada Aur Makaan", "Benaam" and "Manzil".
She received Filmfare nominations as Best Actress for "Anuraag" (1972)
where she played a blind girl, and as Best Supporting Actress for "Roti
Kapda Aur Makaan" (1974), where she played a rape survivor.
In
the late 80's and 90's, eschewing glamorous parts for good scripts,
Chatterjee went on to play the sister-in-law or, lately, maternal
roles, playing mother to Akshaye Khanna in "Aa Ab Laut Chalen" (1999).
She also demonstrated her talent for comedy in "Angoor" (1982)
and in the television series "Albeli" , in which she played the title
character.
She is still acting in movies, but not at the same pace as earlier.
She
is now also acting in a movie with her youngest daughter, Megha, in her
debut movie. A Bengali movie named "Bhalo Bashar Onek Naam" directed by
Tarun Majumdar the same person who directed Chatterji's very first
movie, Balika Badhu.
